GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE REGIONAL INTERMODAL TRANSPORTATION CENTER
Bob Hope Airport is moving forward with the development of a Regional Intermodal Transportation Center (RITC) to be located along Empire Avenue, across from the Bob Hope Airport Train Station. The RITC will be a three-level structure housing a consolidated rental car facility and rental car customer service building and will include a bus transit station on the ground level. An elevated moving walkway will convey rental car customers and rail and bus passengers between the airport passenger terminal and the RITC, making Bob Hope Airport uniquely convenient and accessible via multiple transportation modes.
In addition to improving transportation options, the RITC is being designed to resist large earthquakes and will have the potential to serve as an emergency response center, when rail and aviation access to the region would play vital roles.
The RITC will also provide an opportunity for the City of Burbank to install a large array of solar panels, helping the City to acquire a new source of green power for its grid.
CURRENT STATUS: The RITC went out out to bid Friday, January 20, 2012. If the bidding process is successful, construction will start in 2012, aiming for an opening in 2014.
